Microbiology is the study of Micro-organisms or in other words
minute organisms which are invisible to the naked eye. Micro-Biology
helps in understanding the life cycles of these micro-organisms,
and the effect they have on plants and animals. Life of Micro
- organisms is very intricate and thus affects soil, water etc.
and as a result life on earth warrants a controlled scientific
study of Microbiology.

Micro-Biology has various branches like Soil Micro-Biology, Food,
Water, Dairy and Genetics. The development of Micro-Biology depends
largely on industrial methods, the economic requirements and general
progress of science and engineering. By detecting it we can improve
the Agricultural, Horticultural and also Pharmaceutical Science,
Space Biology etc.
The purpose of modern Micro-Biology is to serve people by knowing
the structure and important biological properties of pathogenic
microbes and their relation with human organism. The success of
Micro-Biology contributes to the development of the study of infections,
diseases, virology, surgery, hygiene, epidemiology etc. It can
be said without exaggeration, that at present there is no medical
science without development in Micro-Biology. B.Sc., Micro-Biology
represents a regular three years' degree course of Bangalore University.
After completing the course one can go for higher studies - (M.Sc)
or work as a Micro-Biologist in agricultural pharmaceutical lab,
food industries, distilleries, water plants etc.
Eligibility :
Pass in 12th Standard / Equivalent with Chemistry, Biology, Zoology,
Botany, Sericulture and Environment Science.
Duration :
Three academic years ( 6 Semisters)
* University / Board / Apex body prescribed syllabus / Duration
will be applicable.
